FIGHT OF 5 DECADES: Malaysia the boxing ring, Sabah the referee & Sarawak the VVIP seats

FIGHT OF 5 DECADES: M'sia the boxing ring, Sabah the referee & S'wak the VVIP seats
Imagine this setting: The defining match date is the 13th General Election. The boxing ring is the whole of Malaysia – Sabah however is the referee and Sarawak takes up the premium VVIP seat nearest to the ring.
And the referee announces, “On my right is the defending champion BN. A fifty-five year track record of staying power. Unprecedented in world history of politics.”
And as he raises the right hand of the BN contestant, the ‘world champ’ screams “over dead bodies and crushed bones we will deliver this fight.” And then dances in circles heading to the BN corner of the ring while the supporters hum “Jangi DeTepati” in chorus.
KEEP IT CLEAN!
As the Sarawakians on the front seat gallery watch in stunned silence, the referee announces the Pakatan boxer. “And for the first time in Malaysia’s political boxing history, we have Pakatan Rakyat here on my left willing to challenge against the many odds,” he screams into the microphone only to be drowned by a sea of yellow waves swamping the boxing championship venue with “Jangi Bersih”.
The referee continues. “Ladies and gentlemen, we are about to witness a match that promises to rip open the very arteries and veins that port our adrenalin.”
And the Pakatan Rakyat contestant removes his glove, points his finger to the referee and warns, “keep it clean!”
NO FEAR OR FAVORS
At this gesture, the crowds get mesmerized in the loud outburst of a spontaneous song that rimes quite similar to the punch-line of the famous Muhammed Ali’s ‘Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee’ .
On seeing this earth shaking expression from the voters, the Sarawakians too decide to join the chorus. It catches the BN supporters by surprise.
And the fight begins.
At some point during the match, the referee is challenged to abort the match because of the bloody injuries and the desperate attempts by the defending champion while the injured challenger remains resolute and determined to finish the fight.
The crowd gets into a frenzy demanding that the referee acts without fear or favor. Meanwhile, trouble rousers are ganging up to pump chaos into the crowd.
The rest is for you the reader to imagine ….. as we await the 13th GE.
