Gov't scratching head over six Merdeka Day logos
An Information, Communications and Culture Ministry official has confirmed that the government has designed six versions of the Merdeka logo, but has yet to decide on the final official version.
According to a China Press report, major newspapers and television stations have recently been highlighting the different versions of the Merdeka logo, stirring up confusion in the public.
These follow the scrapping of the controversialoriginal logo (left), that had been the all-round target of heavy brickbats for its complete lack of design aesthetics.
When contacted, a public relations official confirmed that the government designed all the logos, but the selection process is still ongoing.
"Until now, our ministry has not formally made a decision on which version to use on Aug 31."
She said that the final decision is in the hands of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, Information, Communication and Culture Minister Rais Yatim and senior officers.
According to the report, all versions have the four main elements, including the 1Malaysia logo, the theme"Janji Ditepati" (Promises Fulfilled), the word "Merdeka" and number "55", symbolising the country's 55 years of independence.
Five of the logos can be found on the official National day website -www.malaysiamerdeka.gov.my.
It is understood that prime minister has also directed the relevant ministry to deal with Merdeka song, following the various controversies surrounding the national day jingle from itspropagandistic lyrics to its allegedly cribbed melody.
