Najib’s Pekan open house set for bumper crowd

PEKAN, Aug 25 — An estimated 70,000 guests are expected at the open house to be held by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor at Taman Tasik Sultan Abu Bakar, near here tomorrow, said Pekan Umno division deputy chief, Datuk Ishak Muhamad.

Speaking to reporters here today after surveying the preparations for the 10 am to 2 pm function, he said about 200 stalls by 150 food operators from Pekan would be serving a variety of local and traditional dishes.

The Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah; Sultanah of Pahang, Sultanah Kalsom; Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah; and Tengku Puan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah are also expected to attend the event, he said.

Ishak added that the prime minister will also be presenting donations to about 200 prospective Hajj candidates from Pekan and “duit raya” to children.

“Famous artistes including Awie (Wings), singers Syed Sobrie, Azie, Noraniza Idris, Nassier Wahab, DJ Dave and Hattan would be performing as well,” he said. — Bernama
