PKR today revealed more documents which allegedly prove that MIC central working committee member S Vell Paari had “intervened” to ensure that an MIC Youth leader’s company was awarded a deal to operate AIMST University’s cafeteria.
According to PKR national strategy and policy bureau secretary S Gobikrishnan, this was detailed in a purported letter sent by MIC’s education arm Maju Institute Educational Development (MIED)’s then chief executive officer on Jan 2, 2009.
“Vell Paari has himself interfered and ensured that (Penang MIC Youth leader) J Dhinagaran got the contract. This is proven by a letter by (then) MIED CEO P Chithirakala to S Samy Vellu, who was the chairperson of MIED,” he told reporters today.
In the letter, sighted by Malaysiakini, Chithirakala said that that she was about to view the presentations by some other companies who had given their quotations for the project when Penang MIC Youth chief J Dhinagaran dropped Vell Paari’s name.
“Before I could call a presentation, one Mr Dhina who claimed to be Mr Paari’s friend came to see me at MIED.
“(Dhinagaran) asked him to meet me to speak about the catering contract. I told him his company is shortlisted and that we will call them for a presentation soon,” Chithirakala allegedly wrote.
When contacted, Vell Paari denied any intervention, and said that he did not even know that Dhinagaran’s company Jaya Cafe Holdings Sdn Bhd had been awarded the contract until a forensic audit of the matter was commissioned by MIED.
