PKR’s Mansor denies calling Guan Eng ‘arrogant’

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 — Penang PKR chief Datuk Dr Mansor Othman denied today that he had described Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng as arrogant during a recent meeting of his party’s strategy team.
He told a press conference in George Town, Penang, that the revelations made in the leaked meeting minutes published in a blog were the work of political foes out to create friction between PKR and its Pakatan Rakyat (PR) partner DAP, which is led by Lim.
The alleged minutes of the PKR strategy meeting had sparked a fierce reaction from Penang DAP, with its state chief Chow Kon Yeow demanding yesterday clarification from its partner on the matter.
Chow had also denied in a statement claims allegedly made at the same PKR meeting that the DAP had demanded to contest additional seats in the coming general election, paving the way for possible three-corner fights in the DAP’s northern fortress.
Mansor was quoted in the alleged minutes as saying that PKR’s Chinese candidates were viewed as a “threat” to the DAP.
It also cited Mansor as saying: “He (Guan Eng) is very arrogant, I tell you... cocky and arrogant. It is not easy. Now more arrogant.
“They (the DAP) are sure of winning 19 (seats) and they want more. Because with two more (seats) they can form their own government and they can take from us (PKR reps) to be on their side and (then) abandon us (PKR).”
Today, Mansor said: “Words like ‘tokong’ (deity) were taken out of context to give a bad impression on the relationship between PKR and DAP.
“For example, the word ‘tokong’ actually refers to the honour and respect given to the chief minister by the Penang people.”
He said the meeting was not a strategic planning meeting as was reported but an informal meet of a group of PKR members.
He also denied that there were any minutes taken during the meeting.
