Residents crying foul over rubbish dump

A big waste disposal bin in their housing estate is the source of the problem.
NILAI: About 300 residents from Taman Melati, Ulu Beranang here are crying foul over bad smell from rubbish dumped at the housing estate.
Koi Chow Keong, 74, whose house is just adjacent to the place where the rubbish is dumped admitted he can’t take the bad stench.
“I have been living here for the past 10 years but since 2010 the rubbish has been dumped here for no reason.
“I have no idea why the Nilai Town Council or Southern Waste Management (the contractor who collects the rubbish) places a big rubbish dumpster here.
“Some residents and myself have been monitoring to see who is throwing their waste here but when we go to sleep, we find that rubbish has been left by some unknown persons,” he said.
Mohamad Rosli Hamid, the village chief of Kampung Ulu Beranang, claimed the rubbish is not thrown by the Taman Melati residents but outsiders.
“The problem is why did the Nilai Town Council and SWM place the rubbish dumpster here? When you place it here, those involved in food and drinks business will surely their rubbish here.
“You can see the sugarcane husk thrown all over and this must be from the person who is selling sugar cane drinks during Bazar Ramadhan.
“We want NTC and SWM to close this rubbish dumping site, clear out the big rubbish dumpster from here and put a signboard that prohibits anyone from throwing rubbish here,” said Mohamad Rosli.
Seremban MP John Fernandez from DAP who organised this visit told FMT that he sent a letter to NTC regarding this matter on Dec 22, 2010.
“Then I sent another complaint letter on the same issue on Jan 3 this year. However no action has been taken.
“I will send a third complaint letter today and at the same time will raise this issue with Local Government and Housing Ministry in the next parliament sitting”, said John.
