RON97 petrol up by 10 sen 'on the quiet'
The RON97 grade petrol price has risen by 10 sen since midnight today with a litre of the commodity climbing to RM2.70.
The new price has been confirmed by the president of the Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia, Hashim Othman, in a telephone interview with Malaysiakini this afternoon.
However, unlike the two previous adjustments, the government did not pre-announce this hike before it came into effect from 12am today.
The move is believed to have been caused by a rally in international oil price last month, which saw the Brent crude oil going up to US$112.40 (RM350.59) per barrel today from below US$100 (RM311.91) last month.
WTI crude oil, which is another important indicator, has also risen to US$93.36 (RM291.05) per barrel from below US$86 (RM268.08) last month.
The government had announced two reductions to RM2.60 per litre in the last 2 months, after the price of RON97 hit a peak of RM2.90 per litre in April this year.
