Thiagarajan must show proof, says Tamil daily

Makkal Osai managing director S Sunther claimed that Klang businessman “Oms” Thiagarajan had not produced any evidence to prove his ownership of the printing machine.
PETALING JAYA:  Tamil daily, Makkal Osai’s management said today that it had not received a shred of evidence to prove that a printing machine in its custody belonged to Klang-based businessman ‘Oms’ Thiagarajan.
The ownership of the machine used to print the Tamil daily is under dispute.
On Wednesday, the daily accused Thiagarajan of blocking the printing of the Tamil daily,  but the businessman dismissed the claims, saying it was the newspaper’s management that had locked the company’s premises.
He said that he had bought the printing machine from its previous owner, M Mathialagan.
Mathialagan is the son-in-law of Makkal Osai’s general manager SM Periasamy.
“Once I bought the machine, Makkal Osai approached me asking for the paper to be printed using the machine which I agreed.
“I sent a tenancy agreement to the newspaper as the premises where the machine was located is owned by Makkal Osai.
“However, Makkal Osai did not accept the agreement and said that there was a claimant for the machine. When I asked who the claimant was, until today they remained silent,” Thiagarajan reportedly told FMT.

Not using disputed machine

In a statement issued today, a puzzled Makkal Osai managing director S Sunther said he had not received any letter from Mathialagan in 20 years to verify his ownership of the machine and that Mathialagan had not spent any money to maintain it.
“Until today, he has not made any statements directly on this matter and has not signed any letter claiming to own the machine or to have sold the machine,” said Sunther.
Sunther said that it was only since August 9 that he started receiving calls from Thiagarajan’s office, claiming ownership of the printing machine.
“But Thiagarajan had not provided any evidence in regards to his ownership and how he supposedly purchased the printing machine from Mathialagan,” he claimed.
Sunther said that he had stopped using the printing machine to print Makkal Osai due to the competing claims for the time being.
“I am willing to return the machine to whoever can prove their ownership to it,” he said.
