Tony Pua files motion to cut Ismail Sabri's salary

A lawmaker has filed a motion to deduct RM10 from the salary of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Ismail Sabri for abuse of power in using the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) to investigate Suara Inisiatif Sdn Bhd.

DAP's Petaling Jaya MP Tony Pua said he filed the motion today because Ismail used his office to serve the Barisan Nasional's political agenda in probing Suara Inisiatif's accounts.

NONE"On the other hand, he failed to take any action against five Umno-linked companies that had not submitted their accounts, some dating back to 2007.

"These companies and their directors include Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin and Kota Belud MP Abdul Rahman Dahlan," Pua said.

He said YGP Holdings Sdn Bhd, in which Khairy and Abdul Rahman are directors, had not filed its audited accounts since Dec 31, 2006, but no action was taken against it.

It was also revealed that the National Aerospace and Defence Industries Sdn Bhd (Nadi), a partner in the country' newest budget airline Malindo Airways, has not filed its audited accounts since 2007.

Further, some of the related companies of National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd, which is owned by the family members of former minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, had yet to file their annual reports since June 30, 2007.

Pua said his decision to file the motion was further justified by reports from the auditor-general on CCM failing to go after company directors who owed more than half-a-million ringgit in compound fines.

Despite the huge sum of compound fines due, the directors were still found to be actively registering new companies, without any hurdle.
Explain CCM's lack of competence
Pua said it was ironic that the prosecution of Suara Inisiatif or Suaram was continuing despite the revelation in the auditor-general's report that the number of cases referred for prosecution by CCM was very low.

"The cases referred by the Kuala Lumpur branch of the CCM persecution unit came to only 1.5 percent or RM8.59 million worth of compound fines, out of a total of RM554.94 million worth of uncollected compounds.

"Ismail must explain to Parliament the sheer lack of competence of the CCM. He must also answer why the Umno-linked companies have never been prosecuted despite blatant breaches of the law.

"Yet, the government is seeking to persecute Suaram with highly dubious and unsubstantiated allegations of misleading accounts," Pua added.
