Dear Editor,
LAST two days, February, 2, 2013, DBKK held the city's first so-called Sea Parade. The general public was invited to witness this public events via local newspapers and radio.
Since this is the first event I was looking forward for some exciting shows as I believe our taxes are paying for it. But first I had to walk across the city from Bandaran Berjaya because the roads were already in grid-lock just because of the lion and dragon shows at the Padang Merdeka.
The venue was the 'famed' Jesselton Point which turned out to be the ferry terminal jetty and one end of the jetty looked like it is just about to collapsed into the water. I thought this was a shameful sight to show the invited VIP guest from Korea and Indonesia.
The opening speech was a typical Malaysian long boring speech where just rolling out the names of VIPs already took some 15 minutes while the VIPs and a handful of people sitting on the chairs waited under the hot sun, some holding umbrellas.
I thought the most stupid part was, if the public turned up in a large number, where were they supposed to stand and witness the show? Whatever area available on the jetty were already occupied by the small stage, the VIP chairs, the tables holding refreshment and for the high school brass band to perform.
The rest of the jetty leading to the shore were teaming with embarking and disembarking passengers from ferries and speedboats.
Despite Kota Kinabalu being a city for the last 13 years, it looked like our leaders still do not have the grey matters to put up an event, what more run the city and the rest of the country.
After today, I think I wont bother to come and witness any more event by so-called DBKK because paying the taxes were bad enough. Attending their events might kill me next time.
My video report is here:
Best Regards,
OZZ WOZZIE
