Gagged - DAP, PKR heads in Johor

Following yesterday’s open outburst between Johor DAP chief Dr Boo Cheng Hau and his PKR counterpart Chua Jui Meng, a gag order has been imposed on both leaders, instructing them not to pursue their dispute in the public domain.

NONE“I have communicated with PKR head Anwar Ibrahim and both of us agree that Chua and Boo shall refrain from making further public comments on the relationship between the Johor state leaderships of DAP and PKR, especially on the contentious issue of seat negotiations,” said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng(left) in a statement today.

“Both state leaders shall also consult first with the respective top party leadership before making any public statements on seat allocations between both parties for the coming general election.”

Lim pointed out that the “very visible discord” between the duo has been exploited by the mainstream media controlled by BN.

“Such negative publicity is not desirable in the lead-up to the general election and will only delight BN and disappoint Pakatan Rakyat supporters hoping for a real breakthrough in this BN fortress (Johor).”
'Exhaust internal avenues first'
Lim said the DAP central leadership appreciates Boo’s contributions and acknowledges his frustrations about being ‘dictated to’, but that such matters - no matter how unjust and frustrating - should not be expressed publicly until all avenues for internal discussion are exhausted.

He urged all Pakatan leaders, members and supporters to similarly express their views through internal channels in order not to provide ammunition for their political opponents.

azlanThe DAP central leadership, he said, would convey the sentiments and justifications of Johor DAP in the final seat negotiations, which will be finalised by top Pakatan leaders.

Lim also revealed that the national seat negotiations among Pakatan component parties are still going on.

The DAP is represented by a team led by national deputy chairperson and election committee chairperson Tan Kok Wai.

Yesterday Boo had issued a hard-hitting statement, urging Anwar or PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to take over the state leadership from Chua.

He claimed that Chua’s arrogance has damaged the strong collaboration built between Johor DAP and PKR prior to 2010.
