AS MALAYSIANS of Chinese descent usher in their Lunar Year of the Snake, it is going to be the slipperiest political journey for all Malaysians ahead.
Parliament is due for automatic dissolution on April 28 and Negri Sembilan will be the first state to end its five-year term on March 23.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is therefore expected to call for Malaysia’s 13th General Election (GE13) in March, probably just before the Negri Sembilan Assembly’s automatic dissolution.
Slippery like the snake
As we rejoice with the traditional Gong Xi Fa Cai greeting, Malaysians have to make one of their most important ever decision when they go to the polls soon.
It’s a political decision on the type of government that we aspire and long for, a decision that is most crucial for our future.
This political journey is going to be as slippery as a snake because of the injection of foreigners as voters, abetted by government agencies like the National Registration Department, Election Commission and others.
Officially, the country’s federal debt is more than RM620 billion. Unofficially, the debt could be as high as RM800 billion or more.
Malaysia is blessed with vast rich natural resources, including oil and gas, and is therefore dumbfounding that we are at such a ludicrous financial standing after 55 years of Merdeka.
It is clear the Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN) is incapable of change or reform to serve Malaysians with honesty and integrity.
It is unable to mend its corrupt and racist ways even after the March 2008 political tsunami wake-up call by therakyat.
PR has proven itself
Despite the sabotages and underhand tactics applied by the BN to derail the administration of the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) states, we have displayed competency.
We have shown integrity and what a corrupt-free administration can deliver. If this was not the case, scores of PR politicians would have been prosecuted and convicted by the BN Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The positive report by the Auditor-General for the PR states is testimony of our competency to govern with responsibility and transparency.
PR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated many times that all race-based policies would be discarded and replaced with fiscal measures to fast track socio-economic growth for all Malaysians when given the mandate to govern after the coming national polls.
Unity is strength and that’s what PR aims to inculcate among Malaysians, much unlike the racist and Taliban-like Umno-Perkasa which is out to divide the rakyat.
Your ballots in GE13 are precious. Use it wisely for your future. It’s going to be a slippery road ahead, so watch your step.
To the Chinese, may the year be ever rewarding and harmonious. GONG XI FA CAI.
