SUNGAI SIPUT, Feb 26 – Several gunshots were fired at the house of the brother of Sungai Siput MIC chief, R. Ganesan in Taman Jalong here last night.
In the incident at about 11pm, R. Murugan, 40, who lived in the double-storey terrace house with his mother, wife and daughter was not at home.
“I was with Ganesan and two friends at a restaurant in Kantan here when I received a call from my wife, M. Puvaneswary, 30.
“She told me that while they were sleeping, she heard loud explosions outside the house,” he said.
Upon returning home, Murugan was informed by his wife two bullets had penetrated the glass door and hit the wall inside.
Murugan who is the chairman of Perak People’s Unity and Development Association said he found a bullet under his car and several shooting signs on the gate and car.
He said the incident was not the first time as the house had been splashed with paint and hurled with stones.
He believed the incident was politically motivated.
Meanwhile, Sungai Siput police chief Supt Azman Salim when contacted confirmed the incident and police were investigating from various angles.
“The forensic team found several bullets and shells in and outside the house. Police would be taking statements from the victims and the case was being investigated under Section 4 of the Firearms Act (Increased Penalty) 1971,” he said. – Bernama
