Kadir blames Home Ministry for delaying registration of new party

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 — Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir today blamed the Home Ministry for delaying the registration of his new political party Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan).
In a bid to force the ministry to register Ikatan, he filed a writ of mandamus in the High Court here today, citing ongoing silence from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) since last year.
“Yes, it’s obvious. Because I can see the officers are supportive,” Kadir(picture) said today, when asked whether Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein had a hand in the delay.
“The objectives of our party are so noble ... There’s no reason why government should delay (the registration).”
Kadir had last month given the ROS two weeks’ notice to speed up the party’s registration.
He had also written three letters — to the Home Ministry secretary-general and deputy secretary-general, and the director-general of ROS — but received no replies.
