Referring to a video showing Najib Tun Razak playing the Tanggu drums, writer Zainuddin Salleh claims that only lower caste people play these drums in lion or dragon dance troupes.
PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s Chinese New Year video greeting reflects the foolishness of the Malays, according to writer Zainuddin Salleh.
In a column posted on Perkasa’s website, Zainuddin claimed that only those from the lower caste would usually work as drummers in a lion or dragon dance troupe.
“Although Najib’s intention was to win back Chinese support, the video clip only managed to show that Malays are stupid and deserve to be in the lower caste,” said the writer.
The new year greeting, which runs for about one minute, showed Najib playing the Tanggu drums to impress a Chinese family.
Zainuddin said that Najib’s original intention of acting in the video was to promote the multi-cultural society that exists in Malaysia.
He also claimed that no one would want to cast Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim in it due to a video expose last year, allegedly showing “Anwar” having illicit sex with a Chinese prostitute.
But that, Zainuddin added, would not stop Pakatan Rakyat’s supporters from poking fun at Najib.
“Nothing wrong for Najib to make the greeting but as it was made nearing the general election, Pakatan leaders would use this to victimise Najib.
“For the opposition, this is Najib’s folly. Perhaps for them the prime minister’s act was of low caste, compared to Anwar who was caught on video having sex with a prostitute,” he said.
