Psy's management: Malaysian gov't didn't pay for show

Scooter Braun Projects, the company that managed South Korean megastar Psy's show in Penang - estimated to cost RM3.5 million - clarifed today that it had never been engaged or paid by the Malaysian government for the artist’s appearance on Feb 11.

NONEIn a statement issued toBernama today, the firm stressed that news and articles circulating on the Internet suggesting otherwise are therefore pure conjecture and manifestly untrue.

“Scooter Braun Projects wishes to categorically state that we have never been engaged or paid by the Malaysian government for the artiste’s recent performance in Penang, Malaysia,” reads the statement.
According to The Malay Mail yesterday, Psy’s show cost a total of RM3.5 million for the 10-minute performance.
Psy, whose real name is Park Jae-sang, belted out two versions of the popular ‘Oppa Gangnam Style’ which the daily claims had cost RM500,000 each.

NONEAnother RM2.5 million, the daily reported, comprised transportation costs from Brazil, and to bring the props and 30 dancers for the performance.

The management firm also denied allegations on blogs claiming that the Malaysian government had sponsored the artiste’s performance at the 1Malaysia Chinese New Year open house on Monday.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak clarified that the performance by Psy did not involve any public money.

He also said the public was not charged a fee to watch the singer who popularised the ‘Gangnam Style’ dance moves.
In a related development, Penang BN chief Teng Chang Yeow believed saboteurs were behind the shouts of “No!” when Najib asked the crowd whether they are ready to support BN on Sunday.

According to Sinar Harian, the Gerakan leader said he has a video recording that shows many in attendance shouting “Yes!” in response to the prime minister’s question.

Teng also alleged that the saboteurs were wearing coloured T-shirts as suggested by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
