Rafizi queries if more goodies in store for Raja Ropiaah

PKR director of strategy Rafizi Ramli today questioned whether more goodies were in store for Selangor Umno Wanita chief Raja Ropiaah Raja Abdullah from the controversial deal between her company, Awan Megah Sdn Bhd, and Bakti Wira Sdn Bhd - a subsidiary of Boustead Holdings Berhad under the Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) of the Defence Ministry.

This, Rafizi said, was in the form of a Land Sharing Agreement that was discovered in the initial agreement between Awan Megah Sdn Bhd and Bakti Wira Sdn Bhd.

“The initial agreement mentioned that there would be a Land Sharing Agreement between Awan Megah Sdn Bhd and Jendela Hikmat Sdn Bhd, another much bigger subsidiary of Boustead Holdings Berhad which would include for the purpose of transfer to the former,” he said.

This, he said, was a course of concern as Jendela Hikmat has huge land banks adjacent to Raja Ropiaah’s 23.3 acres of land in Shah Alam which she had received from the initial deal.

“It is possible that she may get additional lands through the new agreement that has not yet been signed or the two companies may enter into a joint venture to develop the lands which would see her getting huge profits.

“It is a possible backdoor method to further compensate her,” she said.

This comes after an earlier revelation that on top of the RM130 million payment she was to receive in exchange for 200 acres in Kota Raja that was made public, she would receive ownership of the remaining 23.3 acres and a RM4 million advance to  purchase a 20 percent stake in Asta Canggih Sdn Bhd.

Awan Megah Sdn Bhd had been embroiled in controversy as it had failed to deliver the RM100 million National Defence Education Centreazlan(Puspahanas) for the government, despite receiving payment, which among others, includes the 23.3 acres of land.

Furthermore it also became entangled with businessperson Deepak Jaikishan after it engaged him to acquire a land bond with the promise of land but later did not uphold its end of the bargain.

‘Something to hide’

“Now it appears that the government is doing it on a piecemeal basis, they are using different companies to make different agreements so it is difficult to trace. The government must come clean and explain how much benefit Raja Ropiaah will be getting,” said Rafizi.

Rafizi also reiterated PKR’s effort to lobby the Selangor government to issue an acquisition notice of the lands involved as as this would allow the deal to be cancelled as provided under the clauses of the agreement.

“If the acquisition notice is issued, then the government will have an option to cancel the deal. The onus is on Defence Minister Zahid Hamidi and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on whether they will do it in the interest of the military community,” he said.

The deal had been criticised as a bailout of Raja Ropiaah and Deepak using the resources of LTAT, which is a pension fund for retired military personnel.
