BN’S DO-OR-DIE MISSION to win two-thirds majority - has it overdone the vote buying?

BN’S DO-OR-DIE MISSION to win two-thirds majority - has it overdone the vote buying?
REALITY BITES While most Malaysians have heaved a huge sigh of relief that the 13th GE is finally on the drawing board, it must needless be stated that the dissolution of parliament and the state assemblies has only come about after a massive handout campaign by BN to secure votes.
For many Malaysians who are now seemingly a better informed lot, they see this as nothing more than money politics in action. The Najib administration, in the final weeks prior to being disbanded, has come out with their guns blazing to try and buy over as many voters as possible.
But is this what Malaysians really want from their government? Are Malaysians really so desperate and hard up that they have become possessed by the hand-out mentality? And does this really mean that the crumbs being handed out by BN is what Malaysians are really on the lookout for?
Forget all the Satu hand-out’s, it is just another BN “sandiwara”
Every time election comes around the corner in Malaysia, it is BN hogging the limelight of the government funded media much to the dismay of the opposition and BN capitalizes greatly and seizes the initiative to try and ensure that through whatever way and means they are able to muster the support of the electorate.
This 13th GE is no different and BN has gone on a great spending spree to try and project the image that they are caring and considerate towards calculating the needs and expenses of the“rakyat.”
But what really Malaysians need to consider is whether the BN campaign to secure votes have gone overboard through the massive spending of billions of ringgit belonging to the people and government of Malaysia.
Further, what Malaysians need to consider is if all this spending, which is very obviously a vote-buying stunt, is going to backfire with the people of Malaysia actually having to foot the bill because it looks as if this sly and cunning hand out ploys by BN is really at the expense of the people.
In other words, Malaysians shouldn’t be naïve and gullible and believe that there really is such a thing as a free lunch. Nothing in life is for free. The motive of BN is purely ulterior and all the hand outs and freebies they have been going about giving here and there is going to be at a cost and Malaysians will have to end up paying the price for this seemingly free goodies by BN.
A wiser approach that needs to be adopted
There is great speculation in the country that upon the conclusion of the 13thGE taxes will be heavily imposed and the cost of goods and services are expected to rise dramatically. This cause-and-effect is due to the fact that the financial coffers of the nation have virtually run dry.
In order to top up the treasury books, as Bank Negara Malaysia is now left with just a skeletal amount of financial reserves, Malaysians will have bend over backwards and expectedly toil harder to foot the bill of BN’s foolhardy ruse and attempt to buy votes rather than earn votes.
This would translate effectively in the cost of goods and services rising astronomically, and while BN will most assuredly see to it that the civil service receives grand monies to ensure that government servants are spared the wrath of the rise in the cost of living, it is the private sector workforce that will come under great duress and financial hardship.
By this lop-sided approach adopted by BN, as the public sector is seen as BN’s vote bank, Malaysia is set to witness a rise in acrimony and race relations and deep-seated anger and resentment over BN’s tactics in trying to secure voter support from the electorate.
Perhaps a better approach will be to bring back subsidies for essential goods and services or at the least to try and rein in the rising cost of goods and services as inflation and other factors are beginning to cause much hardship and burden to the people.
By cushioning the “cause-and-effect” factor, the incoming government will be able to ensure that Malaysians are able to manage household debt and be able to sustain and maintain a decent and comfortable standard of living.
While BN has been going on a massive drive to try and project a rosy picture for the future, the fact of the matter is that they have failed to take into account the prevailing realities of the Malaysian and world economy and have also failed to practice prudent financial housekeeping.
BN’s “do-or-die” mission is really a suicidal stunt
By going overboard in more ways than one, BN is seen by political analysts as having adopted a “do-or-die” mission in their bid to try and get a two-third majority or landslide win. But they have failed to figure in their calculations that the opposition is no pushover.
Pakatan Rakyat (PR) have in actuality and truth become more formidable that in the last general election and it is easily discernible that they command a wide number of voter support which is really almost being equal to what BN is laying claim.
In sensing and seeing that voter support is in place for PR, BN’s strategy of trying to seize the support for itself has resulted in a very dangerous game whereby they have gone overboard with their overtures to Malaysians.
This really is not a mere gamble but a suicidal stunt being pulled off by BN. The reason is because PR has become a deadly foe that is growing from strength to strength and besides the five PR-governed states, they are also penetrating hard in a number other states for voter support.
While PR’s actual ploy and tactics for the 13th GE is yet to be able to be seen on display, BN’s roughshod manner of trying to gatecrash and win the support of the electorate is very obvious for all Malaysians to witness.
Not only will tactics and strategies play a part in which side of the political divide is able to govern from Putrajaya, but the expected use of dirty tactics is also being on the lookout by Malaysians as this general election is expected to be not only the dirtiest but the most fiercely-contested.
The expected outcome
While how dirty the tactics used to win the 13th GE will be closely watched by Malaysians before they cast their votes, other factors that are expected to figure prominently are vote-rigging, phantom voters and duplication of votes.
This is where the Election Commission (EC) will be scrutinized and watched very closely and monitored not only by Malaysians but the international community as well. But what is expected to happen is that BN’s ploys and tactics are expectedly to greatly misfire and backfire.
Even if they win the 13th GE, BN is expected to govern from such a weak position of governance that they will not be able to keep the country on course towards progress and becoming a developed nation.
This is why more and more Malaysians are of the view that if BN is given the mandate to rule they will end up turning the country into a failed state or rogue nation and this is also why PR has become more appealing and favorable as the political coalition of choice for a growing number of Malaysians.
The reason PR has become more and more the preferred choice for Malaysians is because they come across as being more level-headed and in touch with the people and the realities of life in Malaysia for Malaysians.
For BN, unfortunately, reality bites. This is why other than serving the minority elite BN has only been able to provide peanuts for the rest of Malaysians in the form of freebies which they feel will convince Malaysians to vote for them.
But Malaysians are better informed and educated now and are able to calculate the actual cost of prosperity that is due to them which are being held by BN leaders and their cronies through the use of corrupt practices and it is this huge chunk of wealth that Malaysians want to be equitably distributed among the people.
It is precisely for this reason alone that Malaysians are not going to be satisfied with handouts anymore but want BN and the corrupt to restore wealth and power back into the hands of every Malaysian and not just BN leaders and their cronies enjoying the hard work and labor of the people.
