“This is the climax. Do not squander what we have accomplished. Pledges made to the people and the BN’s manifesto are our commitment to the voters and the people of Malaysia,” the prime minister said in an interview carried live over TV3 from Pekan, Pahang.
Najib had earlier submitted his nomination papers to defend the Pekan parliamentary seat he has held since 1976, at the nomination centre at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Convention Hall in Pekan.
He reminded the BN candidates and machinery that now was the time to carry on with what the BN had planned over the last five years to face the 13th General Election.
On the Pekan parliamentary seat he is defending, the BN chairman said he would strive hard to increase his majority of votes and expressed confidence that this could be achieved due to the BN’s service to the constituents.
Najib had secured a 26,464-vote majority in the 2008 general election when he garnered 36,262 votes to beat Khairul Anuar Ahmad Zainudin of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) who received only 9,798 votes.
In this general election, Najib is involved in a straight fight with Fariz Musa of the PKR.
Najib said Pekan voters had greater confidence in the BN in ensuring a better future for themselves.
“I have served Pekan for a long time and have brought much transformation. The voters can see what I have done for them.
“God willing, I am determined to continue with my struggle and bring much more benefits to the constituents,” he said. — Bernama
