Gerakan gives up Kepong: Kayveas

Gerakan gives up Kepong: Kayveas
KUALA LUMPUR – Many people mistakenly think that PPP has used the Taiping constituency as an exchange for the Kepong constituency. In fact, it is Gerakan that has given up to contest for the Kepong parliamentary seat, said PPP president Datuk Seri M. Kayveas.
He pointed out that although the party understands that there are some difficulties to make a breakthrough in Kepong, the PPP is still pleased to accept the opportunity to contest in Kepong handed over by Gerakan.
"I never raised such a request, we took it only after Gerakan said it doesn't want the seat anymore. It would not be an easy task as Kepong has been the DAP's bastion. Dr Tan Seng Giaw has been the Kepong member of parliament for seven terms and there are some difficulties to make a breakthrough," he said.
During an interview with Sin Chew Daily, Kayveas confirmed that the PPP will field party Wilayah Persekutuan chairman Datuk A. Chandrakumanan to contest in Kepong.
He said that the PPP has unconstitutionally returned the Taiping parliamentary constituency to Gerakan right after the last election five years ago.
