MACC worthless if Najib keeps Taib, says Guan Eng...

Najib Abdul Razak should demand Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud's resignation for snubbing the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over its probe into the Global Witness video expose.

Otherwise, said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, the caretaker prime minister may as well abolish the commission altogether for its failure to perform its duties.

lim guan eng"Instead of cooperating and answering these allegations (raised by the video), Taib has chosen to attack MACC.

"If Taib does not resign or can escape unpunished with such disgraceful remarks, then Najib might as well abolish the MACC, as the MACC is not designed to act against corruption but to cover-up corruption," said Lim (left) in a statement today.

On Thursday Taib responded to the MACC's probe into allegations raised in an explosive intrepid video by international NGO Global Witness released last month, saying he was being "victimised".

"They (MACC) don't deserve my cooperation because they have been naughty... and they have not been honest," the CM told reporters when met after attending the BN supreme council meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

Lim, who is incumbent Penang chief minister, said Taib should show proof of the MACC's alleged "victimisation".

"Public opinion is that the Sarawak chief minister has been ‘shielded' by MACC rather than victimised, by being given especially lenient treatment," he quipped.

He added that a chief minister refusing to cooperate with the MACC was a "serious breach of duty and statutory obligation".

NONE"Under section 47 and 48 of the MACC Act 2009, such refusal to co-operate with MACC when you are subject to investigation, may be an offence which can be punished by a maximum fine of RM10,000 or imprisonment of 2 years or both," he said.

Lim said the ball was in Najib's (right in photo wearing helmet) court on how to act upon Taib's conduct lest he be accused of double standards.

"Malaysians are now waiting to see whether Najib dares to punish and act against Taib for such disgraceful remarks."-malaysiakini

Pak Samad tells voters to oust BN...

Bersih 2.0 co-chairman Datuk A. Samad Said openly called on voters today to support the opposition and use this “once chance” to end Barisan Nasional’s (BN) rule in Election 2013.

This is the first time the national literary icon popularly known as Pak Samad, has openly urged Malaysians to back the federal opposition coalition to “overhaul” the government and “amend the broken machinery” like healthcare and education, which Pakatan Rakyat (PR) has promised to deliver.

“This is our chance... the time has come for us to overhaul the government to that power would fall in the right hands.

“This is our opportunity to amend the broken machinery like healthcare, education and democracy of which have been promised by the opposition,” he said at an event organised by polls reform group Bersih 2.0 here.

Bersih 2.0, a coalition of over 80 non-governmental organisations, has in the past been forced to defend itself against criticisms calling it a partisan group, largely due to the immense support it had received from PR leaders for its street protests.

The former national laureate Samad (picture) said now is a critical time for voters to ask themselves why the same coalition has ruled Malaysia for more than five decades and why is it those in power are only Malays.-malaysian insider

cheers.
