PETALING JAYA: PKR candidate for Lembah Pantai Nurul Izzah Anwar has invited her opponents Umno’s Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin and Independent Rusli Baba to an open debate.
Raja Nong Chik is the Federal Territories and Urban Well Being Minister and Lembah Pantai Umno division chief.
“I would like to invite all the candidates for a debate on a date, time, place and format that would be agreed upon by consensus,” said Nurul who is also PKR vice-president.
She also wanted the candidates to declare their assets, reject political violence, political slanders and lewd politics.
Nurul also urged the candidates to take an undertaking to ensure that the election process is free and fair without forgery, bribery and phantom voters.
In the 12th general election held in 2008, Nurul defeated Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and Independent N Periasamy with a majority of 2,895 votes.
Nurul polled 21,728 votes against Shahrizat’s 18,833 votes and Periasamy’s 489 votes.
All three filed their nomination papers at SK Bukit Bandaraya this morning
