KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 – A 21-year-old man was beaten up in Penang last night by four unidentified men after he allegedly removed a 1Malaysia flag, state police said today.
The incident happened in Jalan Perak in George Town, according to a report in The Star Online.
Police said that four men armed with wooden sticks attacked the man around 12.30am yesterday after he removed a 1Malaysia flag hung up at the area.
Penang police spokesman (general election) Asst Comm Roslee Chik said the victim sustained serious injuries and received 20 stitches and also a fracture in his face, according to The Star.
He was warded at the Penang Hospital and remains unconscious.
ACP Roslee said the case was being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.
“We want to advise the public not to fight as we want to ensure that this round of elections is a peaceful one,” he was quoted as saying.
