MB Khalid picked for Port Klang, says he's keen

Selangor incumbent Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has been selected by PKR’s leadership to contest the Port Klang state seat.

Announcing this on Twitter today, the Ijok incumbent said he is keen to move to Port Klang, but it depends on whether the locals can accept him there.

azlan"The PKR leadership hopes that a heavyweight candidate can win the voters' confidence and I have been given the responsibility to contest there.

"I will meet with supporters in Port Klang tomorrow and if they support my standing there, I will work towards an even bigger victory for Pakatan Rakyat," he said.
As for his present seat, Abdul Khalid suggested that Ijok local Idris Ahmad and Reformasi stalwart contest instead.

“I hope Ijok supporters will continue to support the candidate chosen by the leadership. I thank them for all their support and assistance,” he said.

Abdul Khalid, who will also defend his Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat, said that Pakatan had made a mistake in the last outing in choosing someone for the Port Klangseat who would eventually defect.

“I hope to redeem Pakatan's mistake by providing better service to Port Klang voters,” he said.
Cold shouldered in Ijok
Port Klang incumbent Badrul Hisham Abdullah, who won with a majority of 4,407 on the PKR ticket, defected to Umno in 2010.

Party sources told Malaysiakini last week that the leadership was mulling moving Abdul Khalid out of Ijok for fear that he might not retain the seat this time.

His constituents also appear to have given him the cold shoulder judging from the low turnout at his events during his sparse visits.

Party sources added that Abdul Khalid was even jeered by a crowd during a recent event, leading the party to really question the level of his support in the constituency.

Ijok is under the Kuala Selangor PKR division which has been known for in-fighting over the years.

For example, a division member last week lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission alleging misappropriation of the division's funds by Abdul Khalid, who is division chief, and other committee members.
