Najib: Pakatan delivered only 15pc of Election 2008 pledges

IPOH, April 9 — Pakatan Rakyat (PR) only fulfilled 15 per cent of its promises from the 2008 polls, Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today, pouring doubt over the federal opposition’s ability to deliver on the many other pledges it made in its Election 2013 manifesto.
The prime minister said unlike PR, Barisan Nasional’s (BN) manifesto promises are better researched, non-populist in nature and more achievable.
“PR, they made election promises in 2008 but only 15 per cent of their promises were delivered.
“So I recommend that PR changes its name to Pakatan 15 per cent... because that is all they achieved,” Najib(picture) said at a special luncheon with Perak’s Chinese guilds and associations at the Tow Boo Keong temple hall here.
“Our manifesto has been scrutinised and all say that the commitments are doable, and they are also fiscally responsible.
“We will reduce fiscal deficit over the years... because the economy will grow, and we know how to grow it, we will create more wealth and share it with the rest of the country,” he said.
In contrast, Najib said PR’s election promises of slashing toll rates, free education for all and cheaper fuel could not be achieved as “no country in the world could do it”.
“We believe in creating wealth, we are not a populist government.
“If you keep on giving to the rakyat, promise free this and that... everything reduced and given free, no country in the world could do it.
“So don’t get taken up by such empty promises,” he said.
