No anti-gov't remarks during polls period, teachers told

School teachers have been reminded not to make anti-government statements in Facebook and other social media during the general election period.

Three headmasters from Chinese primary schools confirmed that Kuala Lumpur Education Department director Abdullah Md Yunus made the call at a special meeting with headmasters from some 40 Chinese primary schools.

The teachers are prohibited from saying negative things against the government, including conveying anti-government messages to the schoolchildren, a headmistress said.

However, she said this is not a new regulation as this has been stipulated government regulations governing the conduct of civil servants since 1999.

"The order was conveyed at the meeting held in a school. We were told not to make any anti-government statement in Facebook and the social media," a source from the school said yesterday.

"Apart from that, we were also indirectly told not to vote against the (BN) government.
We were asked to imagine what if someone else became prime minister and education minister whether development still be forthcoming," she said.

She ticked off BN for failing to distinguishing the government from party and for prodding civil servants to vote for the ruling coalition.
