‘PKR does not revolve around Anwar’

Party vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar also says that it is every politician's dream to be prime minister.
PETALING JAYA: PKR does not revolve around one individual but “revolves around the nation” as it seeks to bring meaningful changes to the lives of Malaysians.
“Our desire is to take over the administration of the federal government to bring more meaningful changes into the lives of the people,” PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar told FMT in an interview.
“Barisan Nasional had been given 56 years to govern the country; how many more years do you want to give them?” she asked.
She said this when asked to comment on a recent statement by political analyst Dr Chandra Muzaffar that PKR revolved around one individual (PKR de facto chief Anwar Ibrahim) whose only aim was to become prime minister.
“It is every politician’s dream and don’t you think Muhyiddin Yassin [Deputy Prime Minister] does not want to become prime minister?” Nurul asked.
Nurul also expressed disappointment over a spate of violent incidents at her Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency in the run-up to the general election.
Nurul, the incumbent, would face Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin in this election.
Nomination for the country’s 13th general election is on April 20, while polling is on May 5.
“Every single time we organise a programme, especially in Kerinchi and Pantai Dalam, we are met with political violence by Umno,” said Nurul.
She said Pakatan Rakyat supporters are bombarded with abuse and pelted with stones by those wearing Perkasa and Umno T-shirts.
“Although we had made police reports and given pictures to the police, no action had been taken,” she said.
She blamed Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein for not taking action against the perpetrators of the crimes.
“My criticism has always been levelled at Hishammuddin. He should be professional and not take sides… when Anwar was attacked no action was taken,” she added.
