Rafizi shines more light on Pandan rival’s alleged misconduct

PETALING JAYA, April 24 ― PKR Pandan hopeful Rafizi Ramli furnished further documentary evidence of a probe against rival Gary Lim for alleged fraud and misconduct, after the latter denied any such investigation yesterday.
The PKR strategy directory provided copies of show cause letters issued recently by Lim’s former employers, Shear Delamore & Co, as well as the Bar Council, which demanded his explanation for alleged misrepresentation.
“I believe the evidence here is clear enough that he is under police and Bar Council investigation on allegations of misconduct, despite him denying it until today,” Rafizi (picture), known as PKR’s “exposé man”, told a press conference here.
In addition to the two letters dated December 27, 2012 and February 19, 2013 respectively, the law firm had also lodged a police report against the MCA candidate.
According to the documents, Lim has yet to respond to previous show cause letters.
The allegations surfaced a day before nominations last week. Rafizi then turned up the heat on Lim by adducing documents on nomination day last Saturday to expose the allegations surrounding the latter.
Lim continues to deny the allegations and has instructed his team to investigate Rafizi over the claim and possibly take legal action.
“All I would say at this stage is that the crux of the matter is that the disciplinary board has not initiated, as far as I’m concerned, any action against me.
“On that note, I will allow my legal team to finish their probe on the matter before we respond,” he said, adding that he had been advised to hold a press conference on the issue once the issue is investigated thoroughly.
Lim raised doubt over the authenticity of the documents released by Rafizi and how it had been leaked, repeating again that the no one had called him to explain himself before any inquiry.
“I would classify this as a sort of political espionage,” he said.
Rafizi appeared unfazed by the counterclaim and said the onus was on Lim to prove his innocence.
“This will be my last press conference on this matter, after this reporters should ask Chua on this since he will be in Pandan later,” he said, referring to MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
The lawyer, who is replacing incumbent Pandan MP Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat, said he had stopped his legal practice about a year ago due to his duties as the MCA legal bureau chief for the party’s Pandan division.
Rafizi, Lim and Ong’s former private secretary Allan Tan will clash in a three-way battle for the Pandan seat this general election.
