Rafizi to dish dirt on Gary Lim after nominations tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 — PKR’s Rafizi Ramli will dish the dirt on MCA’s Gary Lim after nominations close tomorrow for the Pandan contest, claiming today to be in possession of documents to prove his contender’s recent run-in with the law.
He told The Malaysian Insider that he received the documents three days ago and was planning to use it as his weapon to kick off his Pandan campaign by discrediting Barisan Nasional’s (BN) pick for the contest.
The PKR strategy director (picture) would not disclose more details but said the documents include those from the Bar Council, reports lodged against Lim with “some authorities” and a series of correspondence that he claims will confirm that the latter had committed professional misconduct.
“I know of it, I’ve seen it and we’ve verified the documents so I am very sure that they are genuine,” Rafizi said when contacted here.
The Pandan hopeful, who may be facing a three-corned fight for the parliamentary seat, earlier sent out an email alert to the media, announcing that the documents will be revealed in a press conference outside the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council hall after nominations at 10.30am tomorrow.
He said that his latest expose would likely throw a spanner in the works for MCA’s dream of recapturing Pandan, which is currently held by incumbent Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.
The Malaysian Insider reported earlier today that Lim was likely to face a disciplinary hearing called by the Malaysian Bar to answer allegations of professional misconduct and fraud, a development that would likely cloud the lawyer’s chances in the May 5 polls.
It is understood the complaint involves allegations of misrepresentation involving a major law firm here.
He is also alleged to have breached a condition of his legal practice certificate.
“He’s likely to face a hearing of the disciplinary committee,” a source with the Bar Council said, on condition of anonymity.
Lim, however, denied knowledge of any investigation over professional misconduct allegations when contacted last night.
“I don’t know,” he told The Malaysian Insider over the phone.
He said he had not been informed that he was under any probe nor had he received any show-cause letter from the Bar Council as of the time of contact.
The lawyer, who is replacing incumbent Pandan MP Ong, said he had stopped his legal practice about a year ago due to his duties as the MCA legal bureau chief for the party’s Pandan division.
On his Facebook page, Lim is listed as a graduate of King’s College, at the University of London, who was admitted to the Bar here in 2000.
He is listed as having been appointed a senior attorney at oil giant ExxonMobil Malaysia in 2006 and was also a nominee for global corporate magazine Acquisition International’s Legal Awards in 2011.
He is also listed as having over 11 years’ experience in handling intellectual property, information technology, communications and commercial-related matters and has worked with a wide range of clients across these areas of practice.
