Samy Vellu: I've no doubt I'm a winnable candidate
Former MIC president S Samy Vellu has declared himself to be a “winnable candidate” and has offered to contest in the 13th general election.
"The question of ‘winnable candidate’ - I am a winnable candidate, there's no doubt about it,"he said, although he had been defeated in the long-standing MIC stronghold of Sungai Siput in 2008.
Samy Vellu told a press conference this morning that he is ready to step up if BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak decides that he is the right candidate for the coalition.
He would not give a direct answer to a question as to whether or not MIC president G Palanivel and other party leaders should stick to safe seats.
"In this country, no seat is a safe seat now. You have to give your life to fight in every seat. If somebody wants a safe seat, the best way is (not to) contest," he said.
After he stepped down as MIC president, the government appointed Samy Vellu as special envoy of infrastructure for India and South Asia.
