Wangsa Maju MCA: We want nobody, nobody but Yew

Although it has yet to be confirmed that MCA will give the Wanga Maju parliamentary constituency to Umno, Wangsa Maju MCA division has threatened to boycott the election campaign if its division chief Yew Teong Look is not fielded there.

Yew (left) himself, however, was absent from the meeting.

“The MCA Wangsa Maju division, including the Youth and Wanita wings, in the absence of its chairperson resolved unanimously that its division chairperson Yew should be named as the candidate for Wangsa Maju parliamentary constituency P116.

“In the event the P116 candidate is not Yew, MCA Wangsa Maju will withdraw its support for the general election campain,” read a statement issued by the division's secretary Ng How Doo.
100 NGOs to follow suit

He added that over 100 NGOs in the constituency, which are close to the division and had pledged its support for Yew, would follow suit if Yew is dropped.

This was also reiterated by the division's organising secretary Lim Choon Hong, who told Malaysiakini that three resolutions were passed during yesterday’s meeting:
  • Insists that BN should allow MCA to contest Wangsa Maju as it is a MCA seat.
  • Yew be the only candidate choice should MCA contests Wangsa Maju, or else the division would boycott the campaign.
  • If Yew is dropped, the division would inform the coalition of Wangsa Maju NGOs about its intention to boycott the campaign and it is believed that the coalition would follow suit.
NONEIf Yew is not fielded, Lim warned that the 100 NGOs and many voters may even vote for PKR’s candidate, tipped to be its disciplinary committee chairperson Dr Tan Kee Kwong (right).

“We read from newspapers that the central leadership wants to give Wangsa Maju to Umno but they have never briefed us,” he added.

Wangsa Maju MCA division has 32 branches.
Don't sabotage BN's campaign, says Chua
In the 2008 general election, Yew lost to PKR's Wee Choo Keong by a wafer-thin majority of 150 votes. Wee later quit PKR in 2010 to become a pro-BN Independent MP.

Wangsa Maju Umno has been eyeing the mixed-seat located in Kuala Lumpur since 2008 with the plan to field its division chief Shafie Abdullah, who is also the political secretary to Umno president Najib Abdul Razak.

NONEShafie (centre, in photo) had attended a prayer sessionand luncheon with Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in Wangsa Maju last Friday, setting tongues wagging that he has obtained Umno central leadership's blessing to go for Wangsa Maju.

Chinese dailies have, since last week, speculated that MCA will make way for Umno in many constituencies including Wangsa Maju and Gelang Patah in Johor.

However, MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek has to date only confirmed that Tronoh, a state seat in Perak will be “lent” to MIC.

He explained the justification behind the decision on his Facebookwebpage and called on MCA members to remain calm and refrained from sabotaging BN.
