The people's tribunal set up by electoral reform group Bersih in response to alleged electoral fraud in the 13th general election is now urging the public to present their evidence before it convenes.
The tribunal called on the public to submit all evidence or witness statements pertaining to claims of electoral fraud and irregularities during the May 5 national polls.
It also outlined a list of situations encountered during the general election where someone should come forward.
Among them were:
- A registered voter not being able to vote;
- Being prevented from voting;
- Being offered money or gifts to vote for a particular party;
- Having one's name on the electoral roll despite not registering as a voter; and,
- Being threatened to have benefits denied if one refused to vote for a particular party.
"Members of the public who would like to give statements or provide evidence on the above are requested to submit a brief summary of the information via email to the people’s tribunal secretariat atbersih.tribunal@gmail.com by Aug 16, 2013 at the latest.
"Meeting arrangements will be organised if necessary," the tribunal said in a statement today.
Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan had previously said that the movement is facilitating the setting-up of the tribunal but willnot intervene once it convenes.
