Note to Zahid: Ex-CJ drafted 'unconstitutional' IPCMC

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has refuted Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s argument that the operation of the proposed Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) would contravene the federal constitution.

Describing Zahid's claim” as “reckless and perverse logic”, Lim also said it is a “slur on the reputation of the highest judge in Malaysia and questions his basic legal competency”.

“Zahid is not a lawyer and he should ask Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail to forward legal arguments how setting up the IPCMC is unconstitutional,” Lim said in a statement today.

He also said Zahid should apologise to Mohamed Dzaiddin, the ninth chief justice, if he is unable to prove his claim.

NONE“Such wild claims by the home minister to justify the unjustifiable and defend the indefensible in the face of overwhelming factual evidence to the contrary, has been the governing approach adopted by the BN federal government,” Lim added.

Yesterday, Zahid (right) told Parliament that the IPCMC is not in line with the federal constitution and is against the concept of justice.

The view was echoed today by his deputy Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who further claimed that the IPCMC would treat police personnel worse than criminals.
