3 TERMS ONLY! DAP to limit tenure of state party chiefs

3 TERMS ONLY! DAP to limit tenure of state party chiefs
PETALING JAYA - The DAP is looking at amending its party constitution to limit the tenure of its state party chiefs to three terms.
Presently, state chiefs can remain in power for as long as they retain the support of the state delegates.
The party will also propose to increase the number of central executive members from 20 to 30.
Its national organising secretary Anthony Loke said the proposed amendments would be tabled at the DAP National Congress on Dec 14.
He said other proposed amendments included setting a 30% quota for women in the CEC, and the appointment of the state chiefs and Wanita chief as ex-officio members of the CEC.
“We are also proposing to increase the tenure of state committee members from two years to three, and branch committee members from one year to two,” he said, adding that the CEC has already given the nod for the proposed amendments to be deliberated on during the congress to be held in Subang Jaya.
Loke, the Rasah MP who is also the DAP constitution amendment committee chairman, said another proposal was to increase the number of disciplinary committee members from five to between 10 and 20, with a three-member panel for hearings.
“We are also proposing to revamp the parliamentary liaison committee for greater efficiency,” he added.
He said 2,725 delegates were scheduled to attend the congress with the theme Berat Sama diPikul, Ringan Sama diJinjing (sharing the burden and joy together).
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng will speak on the proposed amendments and other issues. - ANN
