robbers in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal in the wee hours of Saturday, China’s Xinhua news agency reported a police official as saying.
“The incident occurred around 12.30a.m. (local time) at Gangnapur in the state’s Nadia district. The robbers broke into a convent school in the area and gang-raped the nun before fleeing with six lakh rupees (US$12,000),” he said, on condition of anonymity.
The nun has been admitted to a local hospital and a probe has been ordered into the incident, which triggered massive outrage among parents whose children study at the convent school.
“A massive manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits,” the official said.
