India declared a day of national mourning on Sunday for Mr Lee Kuan Yew

It is interesting that India declared a national day of mourning for the death of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Flags flew at half mast. Here is some new.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Government declared national mourning on Sunday as a mark of respect to the former Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew.

The National flag was flown at half-mast throughout the country and there was no official entertainment on Sunday, -- Lee's funeral day, an official statement said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the funeral of Lee.

91-year-old Mr Lee, Singapore's founding father who dominated the country's politics for more than half a century, died of severe pneumonia on March 23

Throughout India, especially in Tamil Nadu, villagers put up banners featuring Mr Lee Kuan Yew.  Here are some of those pictures :

In Malaysia there has been some criticism of anyone who says anything good about Mr Lee.  Astro Awani has come under fire in the Alternative Media for doing a live telecast of his funeral.

As they say "a prophet is never appreciated in his own home". Mr Lee was not a prophet but he was certainly a very great leader.

The fact that a country of 1.3 billion people like India can declare a day of national mourning and the Indian Prime Minister attended his funeral speaks volumes about Mr Lee's standing in the world.

Hundreds of thousands of expatriate Indians have made a living in Singapore, as engineers, financial managers, IT experts, workers and labourers.  There are also huge trade links between India and Singapore.

The Indians have expressed their heartfelt gratitude.
