Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar is declaring war on Pakatan Rakyat, says DAP, after a spate of arrests relating to last Saturday's #KitaLawan rally.
DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang said today the police appeared to be applying a different set of laws against the opposition coalition, after DAP Socialist Youth chief Teo Kok Seong was detained today over the rally.
"In fact, the IGP should answer why he is declaring war on PR leaders and NGO activists who are committed to the peaceful and democratic process of political change when he should be declaring war on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria brainwashing Malaysians to join their atrocities of public stoning, beheadings and mass killings.
"The IGP has clearly got his priorities all wrong," said Lim in a statement.
Lim criticised Khalid for failing to act at the same speed when police reports were lodged against BN leaders, adding that this begged the question as to whether he was the IGP for all Malaysians, or just the ruling coalition.
"Are we having a law for Umno-BN people and a different law for PR leaders and NGO activists?" he said.
Lim urged Khalid to ensure that police investigations against Teo were completed today and that he could be released without spending the night in prison.
He added that Khalid must ensure the police showed the utmost respect when PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar records her statement on Monday over the #KitaLawan rally.
Teo is the sixth Pakatan leader to be detained by police over the rally.
On Wednesday, PAS Youth treasurer Mohd Fakhrul Razi was arrested, a day after police detained PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli and Mohd Fariz Musa.
PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who is also a Selangor lawmaker, and Kelana Jaya PKR Youth leader Saifullah Zulkifli were also arrested earlier this week.
The rally last Saturday was aimed at pressing Putrajaya to release opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from jail after the Federal Court verdict upholding his sodomy conviction on February 10.
Police had allowed Saturday's rally to proceed smoothly, but began rounding up its organisers the next day.
The rally reportedly drew 5,000 to 10,000 people, according to various estimates.
