Another PKR leader, Mohd Fariz Musa, has been arrested over the #KitaLawan rally last Saturday.
Fariz was arrested at the Dang Wangi police headquarters at 11.45am today when he presented himself to give a statement to the police who had called him for questioning, his lawyer Melissa Sasidaran said.
As of 2pm, Melissa said Fariz was still waiting to give his statement.
The New Straits Times online, however, quoted Kuala Lumpur police Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Zainuddin Ahmad as saying that Fariz was held for unlawful assembly.
Fariz, 45, is being questioned under Section 143 of the Penal Code, but Melissa added that she was informed that he was also being held under Section 9 (5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act, which the lawyer said was unconstitutional.
"I do not know why the police are still using that act when the court had already decided that the Peaceful Assembly Act cannot be used against demonstrations," she said, referring to the Court of Appeal judgment last year that the act could not be used to criminalise peaceful demonstrations.
PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who is also a Selangor lawmaker, is also under remand until tomorrow over the same rally. Kelana Jaya PKR Youth leader Saifullah Zulkifli had also been arrested over the same demonstration.
The rally on Saturday in the heart of the capital city reportedly drew 5,000 to 10,000, according to various estimates, and was aimed at pressuring Putrajaya to release opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from jail following the Federal Court verdict upholding his sodomy conviction on February 10.
Police had allowed Saturday's rally to proceed smoothly, but began rounding up its organisers from PKR the next day.
