KUALA LUMPUR - Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali has pledged his support to fellow member Sharif Mahmood who is gunning for the Chempaka state assembly seat.
When contacted by The Rakyat Post, Ibrahim said it was Sharif’s right to contest in the coming by-election.
“Perkasa cannot object to that right. We will give our full moral support to Shariff.”
The former Pasir Mas lawmaker however refrained from commenting on Sharif’s possible victory, stating that it depended on the latter’s campaign as an independent candidate.
Sharif, who was deputy president of Perkasa Kelantan, announced his resignation in the right-wing Malay group after nomination day on March 10.
The former Umno Gua Musang Youth chief is still a Perkasa member and previously stated his wish for the group to help in his candidacy campaign.
Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali said it was fellow member Sharif Mahmood's right to contest in the Chempaka by-election.
However, it is unsure whether Ibrahim’s endorsement of Sharif would be a boost as the former previously criticised the late Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, the constituency’s incumbent.
On his Facebook account last month, Ibrahim stated that the former PAS spiritual adviser had not contributed much to Kelantan despite being its Menteri Besar for over 20 years.
He also wrote that Nik Abdul Aziz had failed to implement hudud and that his death was not unexpected.
Ibrahim had written so, a day after Nik Aziz passed away, drawing flak from various quarters. - http://www.therakyatpost.com/
