Mahfuz hoping Sirul will say Najib ORDERED him to kill Altantuya - Umno blogger warns of plot against Najib
PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar is now in Australia with the mother of former police commando Sirul Azhar Umar to meet her son who is being detained there.
However, an Umno blogger said Mahfuz left in haste because PAS can sense an opportunity to topple Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
"What is the promise or deal made (with Sirul)?" asked the blogger, who writes under the pseudonym Kuntakinte Malaysia. His post was published on Umno's website umno-online.my.
He said Mahfuz is hoping that Sirul will state that Najib ordered him to kill Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.
"Did we see PAS making an effort to find the mastermind behind the murder of Arab Malaysian Bank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi?
"Did PAS care to find out who was behind the killing of former Lunas assemblyperson Dr Joe Fernandez in 2000? These (incidents) are not beneficial to PAS," he added.
Why trust a murderer?
The blogger also said it is possible that the opposition is funding Sirul to make statements to put Najib in a negative light.
"He cannot return to Malaysia. He needs international support for political asylum and financial support to live abroad," he added.
Citing his interview with Malaysiakini where Sirul claimed he had acted under orders, KuntaKinte said the convicted murderer is attempting to escape the gallows.
"A murderer will say anything to save his life. So by speaking in a vague fashion, he believes the government and the prime minister can be spooked by his lies.
"If he was truly acting under orders, he would have revealed it in court. He could have mentioned it when he fled to Australia (and not after the verdict was delivered)," he added.
PAS fond of slander
Continuing his attack on PAS, the blogger said it is odd that a party which champions Islam is inclined to spread slander against Najib.
"What is extraordinary is that those who claim to be Muslims reject Najib swearing in the name of God about Altantuya but accept the vague statements of a murderer.
"Is Najib so stupid to order Altantuya's killing in Malaysia when it could have been done anywhere else outside the country without implicating himself," he added.
Last month, the Federal Court upheld the conviction of Sirul and another former police commando Azilah Hadri and sentenced them to death.
Sirul had fled to Australia before the verdict and is currently being held at an immigration and border protection facility in Sydney.
Australian law dictates that a person facing the death sentence cannot be deported to his or her home country. - M'kini
