Putrajaya has for the first time admitted to bailing out troubled 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), said two federal lawmakers today, minutes after Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah told Parliament that the government has extended a RM950 million standby credit to the firm.
PKR's Pandan MP, Rafizi Ramli and DAP's Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua questioned if the government would also extend similar help to 1MDB when its next tranche of US$1 billion loan is due in September.
"The admission by the minister is very significant because on record, this is the first bailout to 1MDB amounting to nearly RM1 billion in cash.
"I think it will escalate 1MDB problem to another level," Rafizi told reporters at the Parliament lobby.
