Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Pest Control Unit Assistant environmental health officer Mariappan Chinniah said the dirty housing environment and unpleasant smells were the main causes of rats infesting the area.
"Waste disposal areas are not managed well, even rat droppings are seen scattered on the floor indicating the active presence of the rodents here," he said during the pest control operation carried out today.
He said DBKL's special rat operations team placed rat poison powder in each of the holes to kill the rodents.
"The poison will get into the rats' fur, and when they enter the nest, pesticide residues will also be exposed to other rats who are in the holes."
The rat control operation was carried out after DBKL received complaints from local residents about rat droppings around the area.
Mariappan said that the flat's management and the people living there needed to be more alert and cooperative in tackling the problem.
"DBKL has done its best through the various measures to eradicate rats, but what's important, (and) the best prevention is to have civic sense and a good waste disposal system.” – Bernama
