70% of Malaysian road crashes due to drivers’ ATTITUDES - survey

70% of M'sian road crashes due to drivers’ ATTITUDES - survey
KUCHING - The road condition along the Pan Borneo Highway may not be on a par with the Peninsula’s North-South Espressway, but it serves its purpose well.
Despite complaints from road users over the poor condition, the situation failed to improve road safety awareness among them, especially during the recent Gawai Dayak holidays last week.
Ops Selamat Gawai Dayak statistics noted 572 accidents reported over the past 14 days since the operation began on May 25, with 14 fatalities recorded.
State Traffic Police Deputy Superintendent Alexon Naga Chabu said studies showed 70% of these accidents were due to attitudes, while the remaining were attributed to road or vehicle conditions.
“When you go beyond the speed limit on a wet day, overtaking on a sharp bend or blind spots, something bad is bound to happen and the reasons for this is that these drivers are impatient,” Naga told The Rakyat Post.
The construction of the Pan Borneo Highway began in the late 60s and today, it was connected to most of the main cities and remote towns.
Over recent years, overtaking lanes were introduced along strategic areas to ease the traffic flow but little could be done to improve areas where sharp bends and blind spots exist along the way.
On Sunday, three were killed and five others injured when a Perodua Kancil and a Toyota Corona collided at KM114 along the Sibu-Bintulu stretch.
The dead were identified as Dolah Amban, 60, Fung Chu Foon, 41 and Douglas Duncan Anthony, 13.
Dolah, the Perodua Kancil driver, was pinned to his seat while Fung was thrown out from the back seat of the Toyota Corona.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Toyota Corona attempted to overtake the Perodua Kancil on a sharp bent, but lost his control after seeing an incoming vehicle on the opposite road forcing him to abruptly swerve into the Kancil’s way.
Failing to stop on time the Perodua Kancil driver ended up hitting the left rear end of the other vehicle.
The accident also caused minor collisions among six other vehicles, travelling along the way. - www.therakyatpost

  1. I am actively promoting cycling and walking as transportation, for the past few decades but NOBODY listened. I find it SICKENING with the attitudes of the present generation of drivers. They are suffering from or having "Metal Chassis Syndrome".
The lost of unnecessary live or lives will continue to escalate higher and higher, as long as these syndrome continue. Only through death, or near-death will their syndrome vanish......(i wish???)

I predicted many things, years ago.
    Among them:
-collapse of the currency (ringgit), which is happening right now,
-collapse of the economy for the country, (coming soon),
    -earthquake, just happened in Sabah,
    -flood, (coming soon),
-collapse on the dictatorial regime across the country, which is happening right now,
    plus many more.....

I will wait PATIENTLY and enjoy the entire show......
