Actress Vanidah escapes death as car catches fire

She lost all her personal items in the Mini Cooper which she won in a reality show back in 2007.

KUALA LUMPUR: Actress Vanidah Imran had a close brush with death when the car she was seated in burst into flames at a highway rest area in Sungai Besi.

Vanidah, whose actor husband Rashidi Ishak, had earlier seen sparks coming out of the engine of her Mini Cooper, had decided to stop at a rest area, the Utusan Malaysia reported.

Petaling district fire and rescue department chief Asst Supt Muhammad Zaikunor Efendi Muhammad Nordin said the car was completely burnt in the approximately 3am incident on Wednesday.

“Vanidah lost all her personal items in the fire but luckily she was not hurt, ” he said.

The actress’s car is of sentimental value to her as she won it in the first season of the reality show Sehati Berdansa in 2007.

The Penangite is a well known Malaysian celebrity and has acted in the movies Perempuan Melayu Terakhir, Tujuh Perhentian, The Red Kebaya, Cinta, Sepi and Setem.

Vanidah, 41, was voted Best Actress at the 20th Malaysian Film Festival for her role in The Red Kebaya.
