The former Opposition Leader has been discharged and will now be going back to Sungai Buloh Prison.
PETALING JAYA: Former Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim has been discharged from Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL), and will be continuing his treatment at the Sungai Buloh Prison medical facilities.
In a tweet today, Anwar said: “Praise God, the doctor has allowed me to leave. I will continue my treatment at Sungai Buloh Prison while waiting on the results of the medical test.”
He was admitted on Tuesday for a check-up, observation and medical treatment, following observations that he had lost about 6kg in weight, and had suffered erratic blood pressure, blood in his stool, as well as discomfort from an old injury on his right shoulder.
A small growth in his kidney was detected yesterday, and a histopathology will be carried out soon to determine the nature of the growth.
His daughter Nurul Nuha Anwar had said at a forum at the KL Chinese Assembly Hall last night that he had an MRI scan and an X-ray taken for a bad shoulder on Tuesday and is due back in prison today. The biopsy results will only be out next week.
Before being admitted, Anwar had to wait for clearance from Home Minister Zahid Hamidi before proper medical treatment could be sought at the hospital.
Nurul Nuha pleaded yesterday with the Home Minister to refrain from denying her father medical attention in the future and to put politics aside in view of her father’s fragile health at this moment.
Anwar is currently serving five years imprisonment on charges of sodomy against his former male aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in 2008.
