By staying put, ulama are men of no principles

YOURSAY ‘Unfortunately men like Mujahid are few and far between.’

Mujahid quits from all Penang gov't positions

Kangkung: It is truly sad that people like Mujahid Yusof Rawa and Mohamad Sabu have to go. I hope PAS ulama faction is now happy with what they have achieved.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang should now jump in bed with PM Najib Razak, and I'm sure it will be heavenly for both of them.

Fairplayer: Only men with principles and dignity intact dare to do such a honourable thing, in accordance to the call of the muktamar.

I hope Mujahid and Mat Sabu and all the right-minded progressives in PAS resign from PAS and form a new party or join PKR or DAP. The rakyat will support you to help topple the corrupt BN.

SelangorKu: The PAS ulama group is cutting off their noses to spite their faces. PAS has burnt the bridge built by the progressive group and as a result they have achieved unprecedented success in Selangor.

In the recent past before the 2008 general election, PAS has never won more than two state seats in Selangor. Thanks to people like Khalid Samad, Dzulkefly Ahmad, etc, it is able to win 15 seats at the 2013 general election.

PAS will lose Kelantan come GE14 after their poor performance in handling the Kelantan floods last year. Hadi himself lost Terengganu and Kedah after one term in office. So let us pray harder.

Gary Nair: Sad indeed, what I saw in Mujahid is a politician of great integrity, a son of a former PAS president.

A person like him is seen as one of the future leaders of our country and yet the people in PAS voted him out. I have known him for some time. This man has proven to be of solid principles.

DAP should take him in and let him be a candidate in a multiracial seat, and he is a sure bet to win.

Oh Ya?: Mujahid is a good guy but he is in a party now helmed by ulama that have no appeal to urban voters, regardless of their race and creed.

Interestingly, he remarked that "the resolution to cut ties with DAP means PAS has lost confidence in Pakatan (Rakyat)."

That being the case, why is PAS still hanging on to their posts in the Selangor government? And also what about their MPs and assemblypersons who were elected on Pakatan platform?
If its newly-minted PAS leadership has any dignity at all and are really religious, they should do the honourable thing and ask for a fresh mandate from the voters.

RCZ: Mujahid is indeed a man of principle. Unfortunately men like these are few and far between and in the wrong parties.

Anonymous_1372741039: Perhaps, it was an unforeseen oversight on the part of PAS that they had to resign the positions allocated for them as a result of its alliance with PKR, DAP. It is of course, the honourable thing to do.

Cocomomo: All PAS members holding offices in Selangor should resign immediately. Selangorians voted for PAS because PAS was part of Pakatan together with DAP and PKR.

As the PAS delegates have overwhelmingly voted to cut ties with DAP, these PAS members should show their integrity, which we doubt PAS has, by resigning immediately.

However, the truth is that these men of low moral values will try to stay in their positions.

Jiminy Qrikert: Mat Sabu is honourable. Mujahid is honourable. But what matters more is, is DAP honourable?

Will DAP do the right thing and complete the separation from PAS, especially in Selangor? We cannot stand the treachery, illogic and faithlessness of PAS any longer.

Common Good of Society: Mujahid, your actions shall not be in vain and will certainly not go unnoticed. We can see those who have strong principles and those who are not to be trusted.

I applaud you for your integrity and upholding your principles to resign from all your positions and appointments in the Penang government.

You have set a shining example for your fellow PAS members to follow. I salute you.

Clongviews: You and many progressive colleagues have tried your best to change PAS to a moderate Islamic party but got booted out. Don't worry, go ahead with PasMa and voters will continue to support you.

Mushiro: Mat Sabu and Mujahid, I believe you both did the right thing and very quickly. Let Hadi and the PAS members who voted the ulama group crack their heads.

But I will not be surprised if they were not worried. We look forward to some good moves by you both, and very quickly too.

Ipohcrite: Mujahid is one PAS politician I can respect. He is quite a rare breed in PAS, a party I believe is now doomed to rejoin BN but will soon perish due to its own folly.

Myop101: Good. You made the right decision as loyal PAS member. Actually, if all PAS members resign now from Selangor and Penang government positions, they will save their party leadership a lot of headaches, particularly in coming out with pronouncement which is nothing short of flip-flopping.

James TCLow: The moderates and the progressives are relinquishing their positions one after another for want of principles. Kudos to them and brickbats for the brainless and principled-challenged ulama. -Mkini
