Flight MH148 made an emergency landing at Melbourne Airport, with all 300 on board said to be safe.
"#MH148 landed safely after fire in starboard engine, per Melbourne FD. Fire out, all safe," tweeted Flightradar 24.
Australian newspaper The Age, meanwhile, said there were reports of an engine shut down in mid air shortly after the plane took off from the Tullamarine runway.
It also said that the Airbus A330 reportedly dumped fuel and circled above Melbourne before finally making the emergency landing.
The paper quoted a spokesperson for the Melbourne Airport saying that the plane landed safely, and that no other flights had been affected.
