MUHYIDDIN'S FATE STILL IN QUESTION: Johor the crucial battleground for political realignment

DAP Johor State Committee met yesterday (20th June 2015) at Kluang Community Centre in Kluang and resolved that

First, DAP Johor unanimously affirms the decision of the DAP Central Executive Committee on 15th June 2015, that since Pakatan Rakyat was formed by DAP, Parti KeADILan Rakyat and PAS, and since the PAS Muktamar, the highest authority of PAS, has severed ties with DAP, Pakatan Rakyat ceases to exist.

The statement by Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Ismail, President of PKR, on 17th June 2015, also confirmed that PKR shared the view that Pakatan Rayat ceases to exist.

Second, DAP Johor will work with all political forces that aspire to defeat UMNO in the elections and subscribe to the Common Policy Framework, including the progressives in PAS;

We are keenly aware the DAP would not be able to defeat UMNO’s entrenched hegemony on its own. We must form alliances and coalitions with likeminded individuals and political forces, based on shared ideals, ideas and programmes.

Third, while Pakatan Rakyat ceases to exist, it is not the end of political reform. It is the beginning of a massive political realignment in Malaysian politics.

Question mark over Muhyiddin's position in Cabinet

Johor is now the crucial battleground for the realignment. Many in Johor support the progressives in PAS while if Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is dropped from the Cabinet there will certainly be dissenting voices from UMNO in Johor; further, there are also other vocal Johor-based political forces that may tilt the balance of public opinion. Indeed, politics in Johor is very interesting, to say the least.
