"I am stunned by the culture of slandering, and labelling that is going on in PAS. I am unsure, doesn't the Quran or Islam prohibit such behaviour?
"Why is PAS practising what the Quran forbids? Why are the ulama not doing anything to stop the slander, which has been going on for so long?"
He challenged the ulama in PAS to show him which passage in the Quran allowed Muslims to spread slander against another
"We want to share the love of Islam brought by PAS. Don't let our hopes be crushed by the culture of slander, labelling, and breaking promises."
Balasubramaniam urged the Islamist party to walk the talk by resolving its problems amicably.
He said non-Muslims wanted to see "Islam's noble characteristics" reflected in the party's leaders, and reminded delegates that God judged them based on their intentions and actions, not their speeches and theories.
"The newly elected leadership line-up must focus their attention on the slander, the labelling and breaking of promises.
"Work together in a more organised manner. Unite, whether you are a professional or an ulama, against our enemies – Umno and Barisan Nasional," said Balasubramaniam, to cheers and applause from the delegates.
