KUALA LUMPUR: A mild earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale hit Ranau, Sabah at 8.45pm today.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the epicentre of the earthquake was 41km northeast of Ranau.
Tremors were felt in Ranau and Beluran district, said the statement.
A magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit Ranau on June 5 leaving 18 people dead, including foreign tourists in what has become to be known as the worst ever earthquake disaster to hit Malaysia.
PUTRAJAYA Come next week, the problem of obtaining clean and treated water supply for Ranau residents in Sabah, following an earthquake on June 5, will be addressed.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Maximus Ongkili said the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) would send a mobile water treatment unit to Ranau on June 21.
He said it was expected to arrive there within six days, adding that the mobile water treatment unit would be able to supply up to one million litres of treated water daily for Ranau residents.
“The mobile water treatment unit will be brought to Sabah by ship,” he said when handing out aid to the Mount Kinabalu Mountain Guides Association here today.
Ongkili said the Kimolohing Water Treatment Plant which supplied 60 per cent of the water in Ranau was restored, and would begin supplying eight million litres of water daily to residents around Ranau tomorrow.
